Chobham Women take the win against the odds

Chinnor Kites 14 v 42 Chobham 1st XV Women

Last Sunday, with only 14 players, Chobham Women made the journey up the M40 to play Chinnor Kites who were 1 position below us in the league. From the first whistle Chobham played with a determination and effort that more than made up for their lesser numbers. The opposition captain spurred on the Chobham team even more when, before kick off, they said they would drop a player to match us if the score became too big…something that eventually got them dick of the day!

Up against a much bigger and more aggressive pack, the seven Chobham forwards (one of which was a back) held their own in the scrum and even stole a few against the head. To counter the forwards orientated Chinnor team, we reduced our line out to 3 at every opportunity, allowing the better fitness and speed of Chobham around the pitch to come to the fore. With our backs and forwards linking well and getting through phases we were able to regularly make ground and put players in space.

After one of the Chinnor props had to leave the field with a head injury Chobham were able to capitalise even more on the great start they had made to the game.

In what was a much more closely contested match than the score line would lead you to believe, Chinnor tested the Chobham defence over and over again, crossing the try line with 2 well taken tries. But this spurred the Chobham team even more, finishing the game strongly and with a final breakaway try.

The final score 42-14 to Chobham, with Jess Fidge scoring all 6 tries and Gina Lee with a 100% conversion rate.
