Chobham Women win the League in their first season!

Chobham Women 52 Crowthorne Ladies 12

Chobham Women went into their last League game of the season against Crowthorne ladies  sitting at the top of the NC2 South East (West) Table. Regardless of the result Chobham had won the league, but they obviously wanted to finish the season on a high!

The first meeting for both of these teams was back in September in the first league game of the season on a lovely sunny day in the shadow of Broadmoor.  Crowthorne are a strong experienced team and It was a tight game then which Chobham had to work hard to win, so they knew Chobham would need to bring their A game to beat them at home.

The support on the sidelines from the Chobham faithful was fantastic and really gave the women a boost as they took to the field.  Crowthorne threw everything at Chobham in the first ten minutes and their big, strong forwards made for a physical game.  It was when Chobham managed to get to the ball wide that the first try was scored by Gina Lee after 15 minutes.  All 8 of Chobham’s tries were scored in the same manner as there was no chance of muscling through the Crowthorne forwards.  Crowthorne scored 2 tries in the second half as the Chobham players tired.

Unfortunately during the game both teams sustained injuries, sadly Chobham’s leading try scorer, Jess Fidge suffered a serious injury.  We all wish her a speedy recovery and look forward to seeing Jess back in a Chobham shirt very soon.

Celebrations were well deserved at the final whistle and promotion beckons to NC1.  The women have a couple of friendlies before the break for the summer for a well earned rest before the 22/23 season.

Thank you to all supporters and sponsors your support has meant a great deal to the team and we hope we have made you proud!

Tries:  Gina Lee (1), Harriet Walker (1), Izzy Fisher (1), Mai Cote Davis (1), Rose Dixon (1), Jess Fidge (3)
