On Thursday 26th May 2016 the club embark on another first – the First City lunch.
I have been involved with clubs who have successfully put on these events and there are many reasons why they are held.
Primarily it is a social event for the entire club, an opportunity to be among fellow Chobham rugby people and their guests, in a social event with guest speakers from the World of Rugby. It is a chance for people from the whole club to enjoy the camaraderie that this great sport of rugby offers.
It is an opportunity for those who work in the City to bring clients, their friends, relations to a Rugby event. For those who do not work in London, it is a chance to enjoy a beer “up in the smoke”. An opportunity to visit and have lunch at The East India Club, St James Square. A famous city establishment that has been in existence since the 19th Century and has been the London home of the Rugby Football Union. Founded in the 19th Century for those working for the East India Company and commissioned officers of H.M Army & Navy. It is truly an iconic venue.
This is a fundraising event and our aim is to break even. Enjoyment is the priority, any proceeds we make go to the club.
Our Guests at this event, which is being held a few days before the England v Wales game at Twickenham, will be Hugh Vyvyan, former Saracens & England, a great mate of Steve Borthwick, and Andrew Mower, a former London Irish, Newcastle & Scotland international – a very funny man.
To be part of this Inaugural event, we would relieve you of £95 per person, but, if you can get a table of 10, friends, clients and/or business associates, then the cost is £90 per head. Venues such as the East India Club do not come cheap. However, when others go and say what a great time they had: Do you want to be the one who misses out!
The closing date to book a table is Thursday 12th May 2016, so if you and your friends and colleagues don’t want to miss out, contact Geraint, here, ASAP to book your table.
Yours in Rugby and the Mighty Chobham
