Director of Rugby Nigel Guy reviews the Pre Season Programme:
London 1 South club Chobham complete their pre-season programme on Saturday with a home fixture against South West 1 high flyers Windsor.
With two very competitive away fixtures first against Berkshire rivals Maidenhead and last Saturday against Richmond Saxons successfully under their belt, the squad will be looking for further progression this coming weekend ahead of the league opener away at Havant on 6 September.
Using a large squad over the two games has been useful for the 1st XV coaching team of Ryan Gregory and Tony Paul to fully assess their options and in particular a number of the club’s emerging player group have been given their first taste of performance level rugby and have acquitted themselves well.
This coming weekend offers the final chance for players to stake a claim for a starting place with the Fowler’s Wells club putting on a feast of rugby on Saturday. First up at noon is the Development Squad led by their new coach Chris Dodd taking on Weybridge based Reedonians. At 1.30pm new 2nd XV coach Liam Cranford will oversee his squad taking on Windsor 2’s with the finale being the respective 1st XV’s running out at 3pm.
Chobham Director of Rugby, Nigel Guy, commented, “It’s good for the players to get back on our home paddock with some competitive rugby. Windsor and Reedonians will be a very good test for our players and give them the opportunity to put down a marker early on in the season. At 1st XV level we will be coming into the league season on the back of a 6 game unbeaten run which we will be looking to keep going and I’m sure that with new coaches in place at 2’s and Development level, all players will be working hard to impress.”
