David Page Director of Rugby : Good afternoon and welcome to Fowlers Wells. Can I extend a special warm welcome to the Players, Coaching staff, Medical team and Alecadoo’s from our visitors today who have travelled up from the Lovey South Coast Town of Brighton. You are all welcome to our village club this afternoon.

The town of Brighton has had the honour to have staged some of the Rugby World Cup games, and although they have played them at puffball ground the response from all that those that I know have attended has been very positive. Well done Brighton.

I had tried to avoid talk of the World Cup, but that seems futile right now. Today we have two very important games, let me deal with the main one first, – yes the 2pm kick off between the MC and Brighton. Brighton have begun the season with a 2 and 2 record having beaten Havant convincingly last week and having lost narrowly to Sutton & Epsom and Medway. They also beat Twickenham by a similar margin to what we achieved.  One thing for sure is that we will not be underestimating this energised Brighton side.

OK then… I will mention the other game. Tonight sees the England team playing for their tournament lives against Australia. For those who have been stuck in the closet for the past week they would need to know that it could have been a slightly less tight situation had Chris Robshaw have taken the easier option of asking Owen Farrell to try for the 3 points. We could have at least salvaged a draw from the Jaws of Victory, a victory which was all ours for the taking only a few minutes earlier. In the heat of battle – some decisions need a little more thinking about.  Anyway that is now all Water under the Severn Bridge and we must now ask England to draw all they can to muster a result tonight. I will be cheering them on with all the voice I have left over after this afternoons encounter.

I would like now to comment on the new group of supporters that I met after the last home game, whether they should have their own membership category is open for discussion. Well please welcome the Chob-Wags. The wife and Girlfriends of our players. We even had a Mama-Wag a mum of the Players. This group people are a vital cog in the wheel and I am pleased to have been introduced to them. I am sure they will be easily identified as they can normally be seen with a bottle or two of Prosecco near to hand.

Just a couple of short notices: You may have heard that the club are raffling two World Cup Final tickets, this is an amazing opportunity to be in with a shout of attending a once in a Lifetime occasion. Thank you to the person who allowed this to happen. So please make sure you buy your ticket to be in with a chance. On the talk of tickets, I wish all a great afternoon of rugby here at Fowlers Wells and whether you are watching the England game from the comfort of the exclusive Chobham Settee (available only by buying a raffle ticket – Cost £5) or in the humdrum of Twickenham, I hope the results go our way.
